A new arrangment of the well-known Christmas hymn, As with gladness men of old, set to William Henry Monk's abridgement ('DIX') of Conrad Kocher's original tune from the early 19th cerntury. Aimed at competent chamber choirs, with an original piano accompaniment introduction and short links between verses; the accompaniment can be excluded and the entire piece sung a cappella. Occasional splits in most voices give a rich and joyful sound for Christmas, including a descant for the final verse.

Verse 4 (Holy Jesu, every day) of the third version of the text is omitted. This version has been inspired by the harmony of George Shearing's Who is Silvia? (from Songs and Sonnets).
